Shiva Temple Aarti Maha Kumbh 2025 Bengaluru Techie Suicide Kolkata Water Supply Nikita Singhania Govt warns versus taking in jatropha curcas fruits!.?.!Pearl.DSouza@timesofindia.com/ Dec 4, 2024, 23:53 IST Share AA + Text Size Small Medium Large Follow us Bengaluru: After a group of 5 women and 8 kids were hospitalised from eating Jatropha curcas seeds in Chamarajanagar district last week, the food security commissionerate has warned about the possibility of public health being impacted due to usage of toxic fruits.Commissioner of food security, Srinivas K, stated while all parts of jatropha curcas plants are poisonous, the seeds include a high concentration of ricin and are more harmful."The unfavorable effects after taking in the seeds are throwing up, diarrhoea, stomach pain and a burning experience in the throat.
Vomiting and diarrhoea take place within fifteen minutes of consumption. Also, since the seeds have a pleasant taste, there is a possibility of a greater influence on the health of children, "Srinivas cautioned about the evergreen tropical plant with thin stems.Thirteen members of Banjara (nomadic) neighborhood who were hospitalised at Kollegal taluk healthcare facility in Chamarajanagar were discharged in a day. One kid with intellectual impairments was kept in observation before being discharged, district health officer, Chamarajanagar, Chidambara S told TOI.He said
members of the community remained in Kollegal for sugarcane-cutting work.
